  • Tainan Station

The way the station presents itself now was completed in 1936. The tunnel between the first and the second platform was also constructed back then. On the second floor is the Tainan Railway Hotel room, a waiting room and some restaurants. It is the only one two-story station building constructed in Taiwan during the Japanese occupation period. Up to this day it is the only two-story station with a hotel in all Taiwan.

  • Chihkan Culture Park

Chikan Tower can be considered as the development center of old Tainan. Within its precincts, there are many historical sites. It has Dutch architectural elements and something from the Zheng family as well. Chihkan Culture Park includes three main sites of historic interest, namely Chihkan Tower, which was even recommended by the Washington Post, the Grand Matsu Temple which was originally the palace of the Southern Ming prince Zhu Shugui, and the State Temple of the Martial God modified from the Kuan Ti Temple of king Ning Jing.

  • Shennong Street/Beishi Street

Shennong Street used to be called Beishi Street. It is the best preserved old street in the city of Tainan, and it is also the main point of the Five Harbors Cultural Park. There are many sites of historic interest on Shennong Street, as well as temples and old trades. This place is also linked with a very famous enterprise which happens to have its own museum in Tainan! It is the Chimei Museum. The Chi Mei Group founder Hsu Wen-lung was born and raised on Beishi Street. The Chimei Museum, along with Chimei Optoelectronics and Chimei Hospital, are three gifts that Hsu Wen-lung has given to its native town. He has dedicated all his life and energies to these three enterprises.

Tainan has a whole different charm at nighttime, especially along Hai’an Road! You can find pubs, awesome food and plenty of drinks. Also, you can drink as much beer as you want. It is quite different from the historic Tainan. Check it out and see what it’s like!

  • Anping Recreational Wharf

The Anping Recreational Wharf used to be an old fish market. Now it has been turned into a recreational space for children and adults alike. There is a pumping station as well as an activity center. It is surrounded by walls of glass making it seem like a carved glass house. It is the perfect place to enjoy the marine breeze and to look at the scenery. During the Japanese occupation, the Anping harbor had a direct ship to the Japanese harbor of Osaka!

  • Eternal Golden Castle

The Eternal Golden Castle is also known as Uhrkuenshen Battery. It is the first Western-style fort in Taiwan. It was built with Western-style bricks. It is a squared construction with ramparts at the four corners, while the central concave site was used to drill the army. It is also alternatively known with the less popular names of Big Fort, Anping Fort, and Mortar Fort.

  • Xiao Ximen

Ximen Road is a very famous road for its many jewelers’ shops. This is where the city walls were located during the Qing dynasty. Back then, outside of Ximen Road was the ocean.

  • Confucius Temple Cultural Park

The Confucius Temple was built in 1665 during the kingdom of Tungning under suggestion of Chen Yonghua. It was the first Confucian temple to be built in Taiwan and it also promoted the teachings of Confucius, that is why it is also referred to as The First School of Taiwan. Confucius Temple Cultural Park focuses around the Confucius Temple and comprises several sites of historic interest which are to be found in the surroundings. This park is also the predecessor of all other cultural parks in Taiwan. There are different types of historic sites in this area, including a prefectural school, the city walls, some tombs, a Buddhist temple hall, an imperial temple, and a school founded during the Japanese occupation; all of these sites have something special and unique.
